Q: What is VSM?
A: Visual Site Manager (VSM) is a workstation based data management system that provides project teams the ability to quickly and efficiently analyze and distribute environmental data from their desktop computers. VSM includes map viewing and making capabilities along with other GIS functionalities right out of the box.

Q: How do I create my VSM database?
A: The VSM database structure is available to anyone who purchases a copy of VSM. The purchase of VSM includes a Microsoft Excel based program which helps you get your data into the proper format and checks your data for errors. You can also contract GeoAnalysis, Inc. to build your VSM database for you. Depending on the amount of data you have it may take 1-3 days of data manipulation to create your VSM database.

Q: What programs does VSM interface with?
A: VSM was created to work hand in hand with software you have probably already purchased. Exports from VSM to MSExcel, AutoCad, Surfer, and EVS are all available right out of the box.

Q: What are the minimum requirements for running VSM?
A: VSM runs on Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT. Minimum requirements are a Pentium Processor and at least 64 MB or RAM. Because databases and drawing files tend to get big, we suggest at least a Pentium 500 MHz processor with at least 128 MB of RAM.

Q: How do I create a georeferenced image to use in my VSM project?
A: With version 2 of VSM, the capability to rotate and georeference your image has been added to the interface.  VSM requires a windows bitmap file as the georeferenced image.  If your image is not a bitmap, VSM will convert it automatically for you.

Q: How do I use the AutoCad script files?
A: The AutoCad script files which are generated by VSM allow you to import your data into AutoCad. To use the scripts you must first open AutoCad and then use the "SCRIPT" command. You can not activate and AutoCad script by simply click on it.

Q: How do create a custom report to view my data in?
A: VSM comes with standard reports that you can use to print out your data. If you need customized reporting capabilities you can create them directly in your VSM database using MSAccess' "Reports" functionality because the VSM database structure is open.
